Connect your AI to your learning brain.
ThetasAI runs an MCP server. With a personal token, Claude, Cursor or another app that supports MCP can read a student’s learning brain and work in their workspace: notes, questions, flashcards, lessons and their study plan. Today it is for students connecting their own AI. An API for other apps is not open yet; see Not open yet.
1. Make a token
Sign in at thetas.ai and open Profile and settings, Connect your AI. Name the token, choose what it reaches (the learning brain, the workspace, or both) and copy it. It starts with thetas_ and is shown once; we keep only a hash.
Up to 10 active tokens per student. Turn one off at any time in the same place. A token works on the MCP endpoints only, not on the rest of the API.
2. Add the server
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http thetas https://api.thetas.ai/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer thetas_…"Claude Desktop (Settings, Developer, Edit config):
{
"mcpServers": {
"thetas": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://api.thetas.ai/mcp",
"--header",
"Authorization: Bearer thetas_…"
]
}
}
}Cursor, Windsurf and other apps that take an MCP config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"thetas": {
"url": "https://api.thetas.ai/mcp",
"headers": {

}
}
}
}The server
JSON-RPC 2.0 over the Streamable HTTP transport (protocol 2025-06-18), with plain JSON replies. Send the token as Authorization: Bearer thetas_…. The tools a token can see depend on what it reaches.
- /mcp
- Everything the token reaches: the learning brain and the workspace.
- /mcp/brain
- The learning brain only: what the student knows, goals, learning notes, what to study next.
- /mcp/workspace
- The workspace only: subjects, course material, questions, flashcards, notes, the Feed, lessons, study plan.
What your AI can and cannot do
- It can read the learning brain and set goals, focus topics, how sure the student feels and notes on how they learn.
- It cannot mark the student as knowing something. Status only moves from the student’s own answers, lessons and checks.
- What it saves (notes, questions, flashcards, slides) appears in the student’s app at once, and the student can edit or delete it.
Tools
The list as of October 2026. Ask the server with tools/list for the current one, with full input schemas. Tools can change while this is in beta.
Learning brain
/mcp/brain- get_learning_profile
- Start here: each subject with how many concepts are at each status, the estimated grade when there is enough evidence, goals, focus topics and learning notes.
- get_concept_states
- Every concept in a subject or topic with its status, whether a check is due and any misconception seen. Filter by weak, due, secure or new.
- get_concept
- One concept in detail: status, recent evidence, what to be able to do, prerequisites.
- get_recent_activity
- What changed lately: concepts that went up, are coming on, or are fading.
- get_study_recommendations
- What to study next, most useful first.
- set_focus_topics
- The topics the student wants to focus on; the Feed and lessons lean on them.
- rate_my_confidence
- How sure the student says they feel about a topic, 1 to 5.
- add_learning_note / remove_learning_note
- Notes on how the student learns, for their tutor and their other AIs.
Workspace
/mcp/workspace- list_subjects, list_concepts
- The student's subjects and each subject's concepts, with codes.
- read_course_material
- What the course's own files say about some concepts. Read before writing.
- search_questions, get_questions
- Past paper and made questions, and their full text, answers and marks.
- add_questions, generate_questions
- Save questions you wrote, or have the platform write and check some.
- list_flashcards, add_flashcards
- Flashcard decks, and a new deck for one concept.
- list_notes, read_note, write_note
- The student's notes documents.
- edit_item, delete_items
- Change or delete questions, decks and notes (ask the student before deleting).
- get_recent_mistakes
- Questions the student recently got wrong or did not know.
- start_feed, practise_in_feed
- Links into the Feed, on a topic or on chosen items.
- prepare_lesson, lesson_status
- Prepare a live lesson with the Thetas tutor and check when it is ready.
- get_board_slide_guide, make_board_slide, list_board_slides, delete_board_slide
- Your own explainer slides for the lesson whiteboard.
- get_study_focus, set_study_focus
- The sub-topics the student is working on, in priority order.
- get_study_plan, update_study_plan, regenerate_study_plan
- The week-by-week plan to the exam.
- set_exam_goal
- Exam date and target grade for a subject.
- record_answer_shown
- Record that the student saw a Feed answer before trying it, so their record stays honest.
- open_page
- A button to a page of the app.
Skills (MCP prompts)
prompts/list- learning_checkup
- Where do I stand? Strengths, weak spots, what is due, three things to do this week.
- plan_my_revision
- A week-by-week revision plan up to the exam.
- make_revision_pack
- Notes, flashcards and questions for a topic, from the course's own material.

We want other study apps to be able to use a student’s learning brain, with their consent. These parts are being designed and have no public endpoints yet:
- Sign in with ThetasAIOne-click consent for other study apps, instead of copying a token.
- Learning events inA way for other apps to send the student's work to their learning brain, with how much help was involved.
- Apps for schools and partnersAccess across a class or a centre, with the right permissions for minors.
